Kenneth W. Getty

On Friday, February 10, 2023, Delaware City Fire Company held a "Walk Out" ceremony for the retirement of Career Firefighter/EMT Kenny Getty. Firefighter/EMT Getty was hired as our 3rd Career Staff member on September 11, 2003 and retired with 19.5 years of service to the Delaware City Fire Company plus an additional 5 years of service with other departments in New Castle County.
 
During his tenure, he served as a Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Field Training Officer, Apparatus Operator and also as a mentor of our younger members that joined our fire company. During his years of service, he was recognized numerous times including receiving several Lifesaving Awards, 6 Unit Citations, the Fire Chief's Award, the President's Award, and several Letters of Commendation. In addition to his work, Kenny is an active volunteer firefighter and officer with the Odessa Fire Company, where he served as Fire Chief, and is currently serving with the Clayton Fire Company NO.1 Inc. as an Assistant Fire Chief.
 
During the ceremony, we were joined by departments from across New Castle and Kent Counties. Kenny received recognition from Delaware City, Delaware Mayor Paul Johnson and City County, New Castle County Council, and the Delaware General Assembly. Kenny and his family were escorted by Dover Fire Pipes and Drums onto his waiting antique fire engine for the ride home. We wish Kenny, Amber, and Ava a safe and healthy retirement!
